After graduating from North Clayton High School in June of 1993, I left Atlanta for a while to attend Savannah State University where I majored in Mass Communications hopeful for a career in Journalism and served as editor-in-chief of the college student newspaper, The Tiger’s Roar.

After graduating from Savannah State, I spent several years working in the corporate arena and it was there that I began to explore the possibilities of a career that would allow me to utilize my Spanish skills. I realized that I wanted to become a teacher more than anything and so it was back to school.  I enrolled in the Georgia State University  Teacher Certification program for Spanish. The program was tough and the process was long but major travel abroad opportunities made every moment of hard work and dedication worthwhile.

My first experience abroad was to Spain for a summer semester. Spain was a new and wonderful sight from the moment I stepped off the plane in Madrid. During my semester there, I experienced the beauty and wonder of the Spanish culture and people. We spent the weekdays exploring Madrid and the weekends traveling all over Spain.  Granada turned out to be one of my favorite cities. We spent an unforgettable night with our Spanish professor watching a gypsy flamenco show in the caves of that captivating city. View my Travel Journal to seee pics from my time in Madrid.

My second travel abroad experience was to Mexico where I spent a semester living with a family.  This was how I truly learned Spanish and attained a level of fluency as well as became fully immersed in the culture.  It was there that I realized that I was ready and capable of helping my students experience the Spanish language and culture.

After graduating from Georgia State, I accepted a position teaching Spanish at the same high school  from which I had graduated just a decade or so before.  In addition to teaching, I now have the privilege of taking my students abroad each summer and sharing with them the same kinds of life changing experiences that I had.  My future goals include: obtaining a Ph D so that I may eventually teach foreign language methodology at the college level, inspiring and enriching the lives of all my students, and traveling all of Europe, Africa, and Latin America and many, many points in between.
