Accessing Puerto Rican Culture via Art (Blog)
During our study of Puerto Rican culture, we explored Carabali, a folktale about a rebel slave who refuses to accept slave life and instead goes to live in the hills of Puerto Rico. In reading this story we elicited several themes: the independent spirit, nationalism , the right to protect basic human rights whatever the cost, man vs. nature, and the impact one person can make to name a few. Works of art are cultural products that like folktales give us insight into the perspectives of a culture. Take a look at the puertoricanpainter.com website and browse the selection of artists featured there along with some of their more popular works. Choose one artist and post a commentary regarding the artist and his art work on our class blog. Access our class blog here: wrightviajes.com Blog
